Tips 1-5…

Writing students are now done with the 5 weeks of lessons, and now they are implementing the tips in a daily piece of writing.  We are trying to remember each tip without any supports.  This has proven difficult, but the students are working towards this difficult goal!


Tip #2

When given a text to read and questions to answer, it is always helpful to read the question and answer choices first before reading the text.  This allows us to read with a purpose.  As we read possible answers to our question, our reading rate will begin to slow down allowing us to collect important details for our answer.


Using our metacognition…

Writing students have focused on becoming active readers.  They know they just can’t write a good answer if they don’t understand what they have read.  As they read a short passage, they use a red colored pencil to mark their thinking while reading.  This active participation allows writers to provide correct responses with supporting details from text.


Tip #1 TTQA…

Writing students are focusing on improving their written responses after reading a short passage.  Each week they will learn a new tip to insure a 3.o grade on a written response.  The first tip was TTQA, turn the question around, when writing an answer.  An example of TTQA is as follows:  How was the character feeling?    The character was feeling…
